In the name of Guy Courchesne and myself, I invite all and sundry (especially if you live in or near Mexico City) to join us adopted Chilangos on an afternoon excursion to Xochimilco on Saturday, April 5. Details to follow. Feel free to send me or Guy a PM if you have any questions, or you can post them here, of course, for all the world to see.
Xochimilco is home to the remnants of the famed "chinampas" or Floating Gardens of the Aztec era. It's located in the southern part of the city, and, when you arrive, you feel as though you've really left the Big City behind. We'll be renting one of the colorful gondola-like boats available for hire and will spend the afternoon touring the canals and imbibing in whatever food and drink we bring along. As dixie has reminded me, it's also a great place to buy plants!

Me! Me! Me!
I cannot get enough of that place. Plus its a great place to pick up plants!
What time, and where from?
Are we to bring anything? Drinks? Food? |

| We'll be gathering at 2:00. Not sure yet of the exact place. Check with your roommate (the two-footed one, to be sure) for more details. |

| I'm re-extending this invitation to join us in Xochimilco next Saturday, just in case you missed it the first time around. Feel free to PM me (or Guy) for details, which we're still working on! |

The idea is to meet in Xochimilco at 2 pm at one of the embarcaderos. Since this is in your neck-of-the-woods, where would you suggest as a meeting place? |

Every time i see this thread about Xochimilco I turn a bit green with envy. Its also really nice to see that people in this forum make an effort to organise get-togethers, especially when it can be challenging to meet people outside of work and family in Mexico City. Hope to join you all some time soon!
After a year and a half in Australia counting kangaroos, its time to return to DF for the next exciting episode of high-school teaching. Five weeks to go... |

| aroha, let us know when you'll be arriving in the DF. I can't promise we'll meet you at the airport with a Mariachi band, but we can plan another get-together to welcome you to our fair city! |

How does embarcadero Nativitas sound? We met there last time and it was easy to launch from there.
Nativitas is relatively close to Centro Xochimilco, off Calle Violeta. Let me look around for a map to post up here.
One thing...it's a good idea to bring some eats. I plan to whip up some munchies...maybe make it a potluck? Food and drink basically, though cold chelas are available out on the water. |
