I think this may be the situation you guys are all referring to http://jakchat.com/forums/ubbthreads.php/ubb/showflat/Number/67861#Post67861
I have also heard something similar happen to other people, so magpie just because it didn't happen when you were in the bar the other night doesn't mean that it didn't or still doesn't happen. |

Well possibly this was an isolated incident. What I am saying is on the many occasions I have been there Africans have been prevalent. This leads me to believe there is no racism involved. My only beef with this particular bar is the opening hours. I like my daytime drinks also. The food is fantastic there-the shepherds pies particularly. |

Three isolated incidents so far. I haven't read what it says on the Jakchat forum - only heard about it, though I also hear that there is a 'members only' sign written outside the bar in French somewhere. |

Please hand me my late pass.
Amani Renas, thanks making this post...and all the responses. I was looking at a job in Indonesia, so I thought I'd browse the country's forum. I'm Black American also (male), teaching in Budapest, Hungary at the moment. And yes, these folks stare (when they're not acting rude)...with empty emotion. I mean at least smile or give me a dirty look. Heck do something. LOL.
I felt the most racism in Germany. Now, I can't speak on Indonesia, but in Central/Eastern Europe (basically the newer EU nation states) here it's been more of a curiosity, as many of these people's only images of black folk, particularly Black Americans, come through rap videos, pro sports or transgressive savagery via the media. I guess I'm supposed to be wearing a Yankees cap cocked sideways, with a mic in my hand talking about cars and girls. And you should see the kids on the street try their damndest to emulate hip hop culture. The latest highlight, however, was last week walking by a cafe named "Negro". O-K.
There's a sizeable amount of Africans here, as I'm sure there are in Indonesia, but as only YOU might know, we're miles apart. Nevertheless, I'll have stories to share when I head back to the states in the Fall.
Keep ya head up. Peace |
