I'm looking at heading to the University of Hail in September.

Other than the airline's alloted baggage allowance, does anyone have experience or know if new hires are supported with additional baggage allowance?..or do we just move to Saudi with our two suitcases and ship our extra box of two of stuff over ourselves.

Check your contract. It should say whether the college will pay for excess baggage or if it will be at your own expense. Some places will pay up to about 2,000SR for excess baggage (make sure you keep the receipts) but others won't pay a penny. The only way to know is to check your contract.

Trunkshow,

If you are flying in to Hail on saudi Arabian Airlines, then join their Frequent Flyer programmes and you will automatically get an additional 10 kg baggage allowance.

The programme isn't terribly generous in other respects, but it's free to join and it beats paying for extra baggage.

Some government employers (colleges and universities) give 40 kG for their teachers.

There are some great deals on shipping stuff by sea from the internet. It takes a few months, but you can send a lot for just a little money. If you plan ahead, it can be here just after you arrive. I'd recommend shipping any day over paying for extra luggage.

40kg is a lot to take on a plane. The extra 20kg night cost the same as a paying passenger, so the university is very generous or has wasta.

I typically am about 30kg when I relocate to another country. This will be my 6th and I'm traveling lighter as I get older. Although my weight sure isn't getting lighter. Razz I'm sure the 10kg (in addition to the standard 20kg allowance) gained by joining Saudi Arabian's Al Bustan FF program will be ample.

I am happy with the 30 kg I can take on the plane to U. of Hail.

I would like to ship a box from Taiwan straight to Hail. It is a large post-office box, with the standard 20 kg max. weight that ships internationally.

Before I ask the uni., I thought I'd post here. Who can I send it to? Might I need to find a local contact?

When I relocated to S. Africa, the person who was the uni. contact (nice lady) did not get the box I sent. Being a small uni./small town/word or mouth kind of place, I happened to locate the box at the off campus post office ready to be returned to sender.

I have looked into shipping things by sea and I was wondering if anyone has any experience or advice for this. I have contacted a shipping company here (in Korea) and they are preparing my quote, but only after warnings of stolen items and long transfer times.

I'm not worried at all about the time, but stolen items? Has this happened it anyone?

Also, should I ship things to my "home" address (the apartment that I'll live in which is provided by the school) or is it generally better to send it to my school? It's quite a lot of stuff to be just sitting around an office until I arrive...

Any experiences or tips would be great, thanks!

For shipping you buy space in a container; 4ft by 4ft is the minimum.

For loads less than 200 kilos it is not worth it Use air freight.
