|

I've been living in Taiwan for over 4 years now, but I'm finally going back to America later this year. I have started writing all my experiences down in a blog in case anyone is interested. I think some of you might enjoy reading it. I'm going to try to update it every day, and I'll be detailing my job experiences with Hess and Kojen, as well as marrying a Taiwanese local. If you decide to read it, try to start from the beginning. It will make a lot more sense. Here's the link:

Nah, it's just a warning that some of the content on the blog might be objectionable to some people. Although so far I haven't really written or displayed any pictures which I think would be objectionable. All you have to do is click "I understand" and it will go to the blog. |

I'm reading your blog right now (since today is a Thursday, and I only teach one class in the morning, but they want me to stay until 4:45 pm anyway), and it's really entertaining. I've only been here six months, but I can really relate. Thanks for that. |

I strongly caution you against marrying a Taiwanese local.
I'll be blunt - DON'T DO IT! |

Yeah, I've been married to a Taiwanese woman for over 3 years now. While our marriage is far from perfect, she is still 100 times better than my ex-wife (an American, by the way.) |

So how's it going?
Is she weird?
I mean does she do weird things like suddenly get up at 3:00 in the morning and declare, "I need roast duck!" |

No, she doesn't do anything crazy like that. My biggest complaints with her is that she likes to spend way too much time with her parents. An unhealthy amount of time, I think. |

They're trying to figure out how many rooms you'll need in your new home in the states in order to have them all come and live with, and be supported by you.
Just kidding ... kinda. |

It was meant as a joke.
That being said it's nothing that hasn't been said or hinted at in numerous relationship based threads in the past. I don't think it's any more objectionable / racist than Miyazaki's post about waking up and demanding roast duck.
Lighten up. |

I looked through your blog a little and enjoyed what I read. You are very open, especially about relationships, dating, etc in Taiwan. Thanks for putting it out there. I am sure newbies, or potential newbies to Taiwan would find it informative. I'll check back in the future. |

My in-laws won't be coming to America with us. They can't speak a word of English. They'd be totally helpless. They've spent their entire lives in Nantou. The shock of going from Nantou to Los Angeles would probably kill them. |

Yeah, of course.
Head back to the U.S., but can your old lady handle it?
You know how these people need to be with thier families all the time - is that going to be problem?
Been there, done that. I know all of the possible scenarios that can play out.
All the best. |
