The university has a website <www.ozyegin.edu.tr>

They have advertised several times on the tefl.com website, the most recently being for Instructors :

<www.tefl.com/jobs/job.html?jo_id=33206>

If you are in Turkey, they give the contact person as Hande Deniz
Tel : (90) 212 366 0661 <[email protected]>

They do not state the salary, but mention a housing allowance - people coming from outside Turkey will be accommodated in a hotel for 2 weeks.

Perhaps others will have more specific details.

Set up as a not-for-profit educational trust, the University aims to attract high quality undergraduates both from Turkey and internationally for a top flight education in the medium of English. Strategically situated in a superb location near the shores of the Bosphorus, and established under the guidance of some of the most successful members of the academic community, the University has high expectations of its faculty and aims to be one of the top educational institutions in Europe within a short period of time.

Interested candidates should send their application immediately, but no later than April 15, 2008. The Board reserves the right to make appointments before the deadline mentioned above, if suitable candidates are found. I strongly recommend people conduct a thorough research before applying for a position at ozyegin university. Simply google the name "OZYEGIN", it might be of great assistance for your future.

Hi Windstar, why do you think this would be beneficial: do you know something we don't Wink

There is info on the main man and his wealth and philanthropy. But other than that, I don't see anything striking. If I were to apply ( but alas, wrong city) I would be inclined to revise how to articulate my teaching methodology beliefs and how I teach academic English.

Rolling Eyes

I really wish I could be part of the first generation team there. Sounds like a very good job and if all goes according to plan (of where the university sees itself after the initial set up stage), the uni will be a success. Good luck to them!

Perhaps Windstar is referring to the political or religious leanings of the owner.... the university is in the old Bank Asya headquarters, i just rode the bus past it yesterday. Bank Asya is one of these tarikat-affiliated groups as far as I know. (Please correct me if I'm wrong)

But when i googled in English I couldn't find anything odd either. Perhaps the Turkish news about this guy would give more information.

Does anyone know anything about teaching load, number of students per class, salary etc? I notice someone said 4,500 ytl per month but nothing after that.

What is life like for single foreign women d'une certaine age in Istanbul? Where I am at the moment social life is pretty non-existen. I'd hate to jump out of the frying pan . . .

guilty as charged....

I just thought I'd shed some light on some of the more general questions that were posed... I'll also be happy to provide other general information about the university, context and general teaching situation.
