Blah blah blah...discrimination....blah blah blah...

The only wise advice I've seen here is that schools that discriminate aren't worth working at. Yes it exists. I have seen it and moved quickly on to the next interview. I have worked for 3 different schools and all 3 had/have no policy vis-a-vis appeareance. If you can teach, you can work. And one of the schools is among the largest of the chains here, one is a famous Kindy, oft talked about on these threads and the school I work for now is leading the way in adult education in Taiwan, growing so fast its dizzying.

If you must work with kids:

Yes, parents may be taken aback at first, but if you care for the kids and are obviously English, then they will accept you.

To the guy with a Finnish wife....she will have trouble getting an ARC on her own...in fact, she won't be able to do it, but once you are married, which you can do here for about 100NT, she can get a spousal ARC.....then she can work, and yes, my current school would interview her and give her a fair shot.

And to all of you....PM me if you'd like the inside info on the best job in Taiwan.

And to Aristotle....shaad-up, you paranoid schizo you.......

That would be most schools here, then. I am white, but my girlfriend isn't. I've seen the kind of discrimination that goes on and how widespread it is in reality. I think it is at least worth warning non-whites, who might be considering this place for employment, about what goes on here. If you aren't white, it will be more difficult to find work here. It isn't merely about a few "bad" schools, either. Yes, non-whites can and do get work here, but let's not minimalize a serious problem.
