Hello everyone - I know this has been addressed recently, but digressed into issues of being single status, money, etc. I was hoping for contributions along the lines of what follows....
My interest is really in what contributors to this board - especially old-timers -truly feel about going to help set-up and establish ESL/ESP units in universities in Afghanistan?
There are now two reputable? (not tested) universities needing teachers with this expertise. (Both US based and administered)
For local teachers in the Gulf, there'll be representation at TESOL Arabia as well.
I guess the teachers who went to Iraq ( a few contributors here) went through similar thought processes when deciding to take a job there.
As we know money, in almost all cases, hasn't been a factor!
I ask for responses from people who are in Afghanistan already and/or are considering applying for these recent job postings, to tell us what factors they have taken into account to pursue working in such an area? We all know the risks, so what motivates teachers?? Is it purely altruistic?
Please contribute! If we are so lucky (those of us who are genuinely interested) details of daily life, realities on the ground, to paint a more accurate picture, are welcomed.
Thanks! |
