No-one has mentioned the weather Cool

My first visits to Kuta were in August, and it was very pleasant, with a landbreeze for a lot of the day. In December or around that time of the year, the wind really comes in quite strongly off the sea at Kuta.

My glasses became covered in salt and really spoiled my cuci mata Laughing

Seriously though, Sanur is nicer in the wet season, and Kuta better in the middle of the year.

The smaller family owned places around Kuta were also very friendly, whereas the medium sized hotels and above tended to be much more aloof. However, the first place we moved into, was totally cupboard- free. Not even a nail in the wall, so we lived out of our suitcases for a week.

Sanur is basically geared to older (s)expats.

Masa Inn in Kuta is very nice with all the modern trappings.

Not for free though haha. But near enough. I'm a former English teacher, living in Bali now, doing various things, including a house share. Have a look at this web page. Ok Byeee. Kay

I really like staying in Candidasa on the East coast, just past Padangbai. Padangbai has three lovely little beaches with nice warungs to bring you food and drinks and there are a few really nice restaurants. Candidasa is a funny little place along the roadside, but there is a strip of fantastic (and quite cheap) restaurants and some nice places to stay, right next to the water. At night its all very quiet apart from the sound of the sea. From there you can drive to Ubud easily or head back to Kuta if you need to in about 90 mins.

I've got an English surf buddy who owns some chalets with a pool and on site restaurant in the south. He also takes people on surf safaris.

pm me for details...the prices are reasonable and it's 30 mins away from the bustle.
