A lot depends on which products you wish to buy.

London is a big place so check out this website <www.somucheasier.co.uk/supermarkets-uk.html>

This gives you information about all supermarkets, and locations - just feed in your postcode. You can also order on-line via this link.

Don't forget large food stores such as Marks and Spencer drastically reduce food prices at about 10 minutes before closing time (otherwise they have to dump food, or send it to the Salvation Army). This is very popular with students, and they start queuing at about 30 minutes before closing!

Ask your nearest impoverished ESL teacher, they'll probably know. For fresh veg you nearest market is probably the best bet.

Use markets as much as you can, they tend to be cheaper.

You here still?

ASDA is by far the best when it comes to reductions.

After 6:30 until closing time if you plan coming back from work late.

I do, about once a week, it saves time going back out to go shopping

I recently brought about 7k of fish...... �10. At the end of play about 9:30pm, on a Monday as the weekend has gone and the fish is unsold, straight back home in top the freezer.
The markets at the end of the day 4/5 pm, as suggested, Borough market is a good one. A visit to the bigger commercial markets, Billingsgate new fish market is near the DLR

Wow. I bought fish here in China the other day and that was 8 RMB per jin (half a kilo). That works out to about 1.20 (pounds) per kilo, so not much cheaper than what you paid. And I bet the fish you got is much better quality compared with the bony fish here that tastes like it's been swimming around in sewage.

The problem with Lidl, (although I've been out of the UK for 7 years!) is that they only stock one (unknown) brand of everything. I found myself going to Lidl, then going to a regular supermarket to buy the things, like toilet paper, that I couldn't compromise on. I decided it was better to go straight to Tesco and buy own brands for the unimportant things. (peas, sugar, etc).
