The co-worker who told me about this was in the Abu Dhabi emirate. I don''t know if it makes a difference. It was about 9 years ago. Great if it's not needed anymore!

I was in the Abu Dhabi emirate at about that time and I never heard of the Canadians that I worked with having to do anything different from the rest of us.

Hi,
I have a Filipino driving license. I am an Australia and have been offered a job in the UAE that will require me to drive. Am i going to have any problems with this license? Your help is greatly appreciated. |

Dee123,
You might be required to pass a yard test (parking & bridge) as well as a road test. There seems to be a difficulty somewhere in understanding why a person with a passport from one country has a driver's license from another...

Quote from the article: He said the traffic patrols were equipped with advanced electronic monitoring systems and radars to spot speeding vehicles.
That one made me laugh. I was always able to detect them with only my eyes.
Only 800? They must not have been trying.
Unfortunately, we all know that within a few days or maybe a week... things will go back to normal.

Dee123, I was in that position (as were a number of other people I know of). Typically, you will be exempt from one part of the test but will have to take a number of lessons and take the road test.
Note that I say typically. I did hear of someone once being able to transfer a licence which did not match their passport nationality - it may be all to do with who is behind the desk on any given day, and how they happen to be feeling... |

The Omani police hide the cameras behind a mound of innocent-looking stones at locations most prone to speeding, especially near camel crossings. Most ingenious and considerate, I must say. After all, camels have the right of way, don't they?
These were on the highways between cities, though, so VS is probably right in her observations, vis-a-vis a city setting. |
