Oh yeah, I'll contact my friendly Qatar government exporting organization to find out about export plates. I wonder where that would be. I'll check out www.qatarliving.com for an answer.

So, 007, is it feasible to just drive to Dhrahan and get these temporary plates and fly out? Sounds simple enough. I'll contact my new employer to see if they can help with this. I have a Qatar drivers license. I hope I can use this to get a KSA drivers license.

I drive back and forth to dubai without any problems. No visa fees, no other charges. They only ask for resident card if it says "teacher", they let you go. This is my experience. GCC countries are integrating their systems. customs, property ownership mobility of capital etc. Also, my colleague already moved his car to KSA without any problems, the only difference between him and me is the colour of our cars.

It depends on your visa work situation, but it is feasible to get customs plates until getting your Iqama.
I think it is better if you get a help from your employer or from a Saudi friend (if you have any!) who might have a Wasta with the traffic office to help in this matter.
The other easy option is to transfer the car to a friend who is residing in SA, then he can get official plates for your car, and when you get your Iqama your friend can transfer the car in your name, and the matter is solved as easy as drinking water!

Not possible unless you are a GCC national.
Some years ago, I tried to convert my UAE driving license into Saudi one, but the traffic office refused and told me that because I am not a GCC national I am not entitled to the rule!!

Which countries drivers license could I use to get a KSA driver's license? I have a valid driver's license from South Korea and an expired driver's license from the US.

If none of these do the trick, what's the next option?

You need to renew your US driving license if you want to convert it into SA one. If not, the only remaining option for you is to go for a driving test with Uncle Bandar, and what a funny test!! Laughing

Does Uncle Bandar expect everyone to drive a manual? Or does it matter?

I am in the process of trying to convert my Korean license to a Saudi one. I'll let you know if I succeed.

MixtecaMike,

Keep me posted about what happens with your Korean driver's license. It's the only one I have as I through away my Canadian one to become a non-resident in 1995. I have an expired California driver's license (from 1999). I wonder if I can renew that.

When I was in KSA in 2004, they let me get a KSA driver's license with the expired US license. Some guys at the office put up a fit but they were persuaded by my friend to accept it. I wonder if this would still do the trick.

Same thing with me, back in the 90s - an expired Colorado licence. But I suppose it'll depend on wasta - it did for me.

Hey, b,
Your English is generally good. Hence, confused by the ref. to "through".
First time I've come across something like that.

I wonder how some people teach English if they can't spell and/or confuse words taught in primary or middle school. Tons of them here.

Definately!

Hey, Trapezius,

Was that meant to be "tongue-in-cheek"? Definitely so, I hope!

Touche, Trapezius! Can't get the grave over the "e".

All this is in the name of friendly banter. No offence at all. Have noticed your posts to contain few errors in English, if any.

Regards,

Lall.
