I checked out the job market in Guanajuato in April 2006 and at that time it was not good. The 5 or 6 schools that taught English were rumored to have a difficult time retaining students. Lots of backpacker types were looking for jobs and willing to work cheaply under the table so there wasn't much incentive for a school to hire a qualified teacher, pay a decent wage, or sponsor an FM3. The steady, well-paying jobs are at the university, but they are hard to get.

Toluca is about 1 hour from Mexico D.F. and has a very high altitude. The people are friendly and the climate is nice. Lots of Mountains. Excellent University there as well.

If you want some adventure, too, think about Chiapas. With the exception of the capital, Tuxtla Gutierrez, it's very pretty with nearby mountains, rain forests, waterfalls, Mayan ruins and Pacific coast beaches now only a couple of hours away with the new autopista. I work in hot old Tuxtla but live in the mountains about 20 minutes away where it's 8 degrees C cooler, a lot greener and cleaner. The people here are much more gentle than the overly aggressive and macho Norte�os. Tuxtla is the educational hub of Southern Mexico so there are plenty of universities and a very good state virtual library for research.

Just stay away from a couple of the private schools called Canadian Center and Euro Center. Teaching at UNICACH or Cosmo Lingua can be a very good experience.

Costa Rica is a good choice, too. Good luck!
