This is a funny way of thinking: if we don't like what you believe, we will destroy you.

The Indonesian government is a complete utter joke. They can ban a religious organisation which has done nothing to harm anyone but let Jemaah Islamiyah do as they wish and the Islamic Defenders Front who have harmed people and property doing great damage to their reputation go on their merry way. Soon while the rest of us proceed through the 21st century, Indonesia can continue to regress back into the middle ages.

Maybe (after spending over 25 years there) I missed it, but I can't ever recall Indonesia progressing out of the Middle Ages. Smile Very Happy

True but I can't help but feel it has become more religious since the fall of Suharto. Looking at last week's elections in West Java and North Sumatra it seems the general public are preferring religious candidates who they somehow feel are less corruptable. I think they will be in for a disappointment.

Perhaps a little harsh: http://news.id.msn.com/regional/article.aspx?cp-documentid=1352140

Though I do agree that the free rein givin to FPI is a disgrace.

Yes llama I also heard about 20 minutes after I posted the previous message that JI are now a banned organisation. That is a positive move and hope there will be more to come.

I must say though that for a terrorist mastermind responsible for the Marriot and Australian Embassy bombings to only get 15 years is pretty weak. With Idul Fitri remissions he should be out in about 7 years as they get about 6 months off each time. And an Australian caught with weed gets 20 years. Doesn't seem right to me.
