See your view, VS, though it may not be exactly what smedini meant.

Muscat had or still has some pretty accepable lawns, along the roads, though I shudder to think of the cost on the environment, of the upkeep. Most were wide enough to be called lawns.

Salalah is blessed, the rains and all.

Bahrain's not too bad. I regularly caress a few branches on my way to work, to lunch and back.

I decline the use of the transport arranged by my employer. Really consider it criminal to use a fuel-guzzler just to transport one warm body just 400 metres to work and back. Needless to say, my fellow Indians (the drivers) appreciate it and even understand my motive. I hope it has a trickle-down effect.

Good for you, lall!

Thanks for not having the attitude that questions what the point is of making such a small gesture! You know, I've actually been asked why bother spending the money on that electric composter that I mentioned earlier in this thread, if I actually think it will make a difference. Terrible! Every little bit counts, each and every step. Cheers Smile

Thank ye kindly, smedini.

Can't resist this following post: I carry my own bottle of water (from work or, on holidays, from my flat) to the restaurant. It's a pity to see young turks order a bottle of water (served in a bloody plastic bottle), take a few sips of the same and leave the waitress with no choice but to dump it, water and plastic, into the trash can.

I think I should begin carrying the water in a glass bottle, just to make a point.

By the way, I pour out most of the water from the 5 gallon plastic container into glass bottles. I'm being paranoid, maybe. Yet, better safe than sorry.

Regards,

Lall.

Keep on spreadin' the word lall Wink

Call me a dreamer (I'm not the only one Wink sorry for the shameful pilfiring from Lord Lennon) but I just believe it's the little things like that that will make a difference...people will ask why you're doing what you do and maybe they'll go and do it too, or tell someone ("You won't believe what I saw this crazy yank/canuck/ozzie/brit/etc. do today!") and that person will do it...somewhere along the line someone will follow your example, lall...

I'll say it again, every little bit counts!

Would smaller-sized online avatars help?
Lesser pixels to burn and smaller printed pages, to boot.
I've seen printed pages of Dave's on the desks on the HR people, where I've earlier worked.

Lall.

Bump!

Ok, so this is a blast from the past. I started this post years ago when I first hoped to head to the UAE, but started a great job in a government school and never went.

Now, however, it finally is time to go and I wanted to put this question back out onto the pitch to see if things have changed at all, preferably for the better.

Anyone?
