I'm being way too productive post-wise this morning. Must brush teeth.

OK - who - what kind of schools - asks for college/gradschool transcripts? Do they need officical (sealed) transcripts or will copies do?

Also...what should I wear today Very Happy

I was never asked for my college transcripts by the school or migracion. They wanted the actual diploma.

Jeans, flip flops, and a t-shirt would probably work. Wink

Jilford were you asked for the diploma at time of hiring or just for the FM3?

Today I'm wearing...a non-brandname polo shirt from a nursing program I didn't finish, overdyed men's shorts (lots of pockets) and an aging pedicure.

I'd better spruce up. Time for some flipflops.

Actually, my post was misleading. I apologize. I should have said they asked for the original certificate, not diploma. I got it from a university and it looks like a diploma, does that count? Wink

I was hired by the coordinator of the English program on the basis of my resume and a personal reference from the coordinator of the Spanish program to whom I was giving private lessons. No one asked to see any degrees, certificates, or transcripts.

For the FM3, even though I had every original document known to man apostilled and in my posession, immigration only wanted to see my TESL certificate. My BS degree is in a different field. The TESL certificate was the proof that I was qualified to teach English.

Jill - could you specify which of the documents known to man you actually had apostilised? Or rather which you actually had to produce?

I was thinking of having my membership to DENSA framed but I could have that shipped.....

BS degree and transcripts. TESL certificate and transcripts. Birth certificate, marriage license, divorce decree. Actually, I didn't have the transcripts apostilled because there wan't much of a chance that I was going to need to show them to anyone. I brought the transcripts for the TESL certificate just in case anyone wanted to see what classes I had taken to get it. I threw the transcipts for the BS degree in just for good measure.

This may sound stupid but (always the big but) if you had your TESL cert apostilised, was it a sealed, official copy?

Not sure where you will be working, but at my job I ended up having to have my uni transcripts mailed down (the real ones - the didn�t like my copies) as for whatever BS policy the school has, they had to have the "real" ones. If you don�t want to do it now (or don�t know if you need them, and so don�t want to), I would assume your school would also be able to send them here to Mexico.

I'm pretty sure transcripts are the only thing that come as "sealed, official" copies, so no my TESL certificate was not sealed. It was the original document though.

For the transripts I had two sets, one "sealed, official" copy still in the envelope and one copy that I had taken out of the envelope.

Yikes on the Shmoss! And I mean that in the best possible way.

What if I had my grad school diploma apostolized - would you all think that would cover the requirement for all transcripts, under grad and grad!

I don't see how you could get a sealed/official copy of a transcript apostilled because they attach a piece of paper to the original, which they would have to take out of the envelope. Confused

As jillford64 has just mentioned, when you apply for the FM3, the pertinent document (apostilled, of course) will be the diploma or certificate that shows you have been specifically trained to teach English as a Foreign Language.

So does that mean the TESL document must in some way be authenticated?

One would think your grad school diploma would do, especially if that is what you are going to offer to immigration as proof that you are qualified to teach English. You can't count on things being logical or done the same way twice in Mexico, though.
