Dear Capergirl,
Perhaps he's interested in engaging in a bit of swordplay. Although, if he remembers what happened to the Lord of the Nazgul, he might have second thoughts.
Regards,
John

Actually Capergirl does look like her photo. I hope you don't look like your Zach or I'm calling your mommy. Laughing

Speaking of avatars, I spent an embarassing amount of time last nite in search of one. Can anyone direct me to a source and tell me how to install an image on my whatsit?
Teknofobically yours,

Why do I wanna meet Capergirl? She rocks like AC/DC, circa 1980!

In the CLASSROOM, looks DO matter, but as someone said earlier, teaching skill will eventually win out. Personality, however, can override poor teaching. I have a current colleague who is a mediocre teacher at best but the students love him and just perhaps study more for him because of it.

I don't know what the fuss is about. Most people can look good with just a little effort. Smiling helps, yes, but knowing 'your colors' helps a lot too. Being careful buying clothes, keeping them look clean and neat..... it's really not that hard to look 'nice'. (Here I have someone iron all my cotton and silk. It's VERY cheap and they do a great job. The laundry is on the first floor of my building - I wash, they iron.)

Looking better than nice is a genetic gift - often misused.

I try hard to look nice, but wow, you should see the reaction from students and male administrators all over the women's college I teach at when I curl my dyed blond hair! I can actually feel their eyes widening in shock, surprise and delight - and I'm 53! (gentically, I look younger)....

So looking good, for me, is simply a matter of trying to take care of myself. Since it's too hot here to even wear makeup, I'm happy I don't!

The saddest thing, IMHO, is looking at kids. I can tell the kids that are loved and looked after. They actually, physically, look more attractive than children from dysfunctional families. Being loved, IMHO, really influences how someone looks.

Looks do matter but I think that it's skills and personality that leave a lasting impression. My favourite teacher at high school was a rather handsome young man and, by sheer coincidence, he had studied the same subject at university that I was going to study. He helped me with all my university applications and to prepare for interviews etc. and it made me see him as more than just a dreamy teacher I had a crush on. He's definitely one of those people from my past who has had a significant effect on the person I've become today. I like to think that maybe somewhere I've had - or will have - the same effect on one of my students. Smile
