I've never seen anybody deported by INM. It happens, but I bet you got a better chance of getting struck by lightning.
Leo726, you don't happen to be taking a job with Berlitz? If so, I hope not in San Luis Potosi... |

Is it DF? If that's the case, you could be right Guy. How is Georgal? I've not heard much about them. |
140 an hour, exclusivity asked for, classes in Santa Fe, pretty much. I don't send anyone there for that exclusivity, but they *can* be okay to work for. |

I didn't have to leave my passport at INM, only a copy. Do some offices make you leave your passport? |

| I didn't look back to see who it was, but I suspect the poster who made that statement has never had an FM3. INM does not take away your passport, nor do they take 2 months to process an FM3. It's done in less than 2 weeks in my location. If something was wrong or missing then I suppose it could take as long as forever, but if things are in order, no way. |

It can go any number of ways, from as short as 2 weeks like you say or as long as 3 months as I've seen once. I think 4 weeks is the norm. |

Georgal Idiomas gave me my start in Mexico!
I have say, I would recommend them for a first timer, especially as they don't require certificates. They are a highly professional outfit, family owned and pay all legal requirements (IMSS, Infonavit, PTU, Aguinaldo, etc).
The downside is the exclusivity, especially when your hours drop off (although may people do moonlight) and too much insistence on using their "method").
I really enjoyed my time there, and when I went back for some paperwork, I got a little nostalgic. |

A word of warning to any newbies.
Never hand over your passport to anyone. It isn't required by anyone - least of all an employer, which I have heard of happening. |

I know that story a little bit...the teachers in question just went to the US and were back a few days later with another FM-T and then they had to get a FM-3, as I understand it. I also imagine that the INM office in SLP doesn't have the same work load as the one for DF. |

Just so you know it was ME. Yes, I had to give my passport to INM here in Mexico City. And YES it did take 2 months to get my original FM-3, a week to change my address and another 2 months to add another employer. Maybe in you neck of the Mexican woods it's different. It has been said MANY times on this forum, INM offices all seem to operate and work differently. They never asked me for a degree, but some places have. There are reports of INM doing spot checks and in others they never seem to bother anyone. |
