I hope someone has some good advice for me on this one.
I need to get my creds notorized if I want to accept a job in the UAE. Because I am cheap I was wondering if I could just get my transcripts notorized and not the Degree itself. Wouldn't the transcript hold more weight than the degree?? OR, will I end up having to get the degree notorized when I get to my job which would be a pain.
Also do you need your TESOL notorized?
Thanks |

I think you really need to have the degree notorize, that's what employers want to see. Depending on what country you are in, many professionals are able to notorize documents so check and maybe you have a friend who can do it for you. That's what I did - no charge and legal. |

You will need to talk to your employer on their requirements. There are no shortcuts. It is all a meaningless waste of time and money, but you must do as they require.

I had to get my degrees done in the UAE, but not the transcripts. My potential employer told me that I can pay a company in the UAE to do this for 1300 dirhams. The new employer has asked for the transcripts to be sent, though. |

It's usually the terminal degree which has to be notarised and in the UAE, this can be done through the post offices. |

Afra... what is their justification for such a ridiculous procedure? What possible benefit comes to the employer or employee by having the post office notarize a degree from the US or UK or anywhere else in the world?
What can it possibly be other that a way to separate the expats from more money (in other words... a tax)

I've no idea how the postal system does this but it started a couple of years ago when it was announced that high school qualifications for labourers, etc. were required. Maybe, it's thought a foolproof way to avoid fake qualifications? I presume that the PO contacts the university or whatever for verification but I don't know anyone who's ever used the system or how much it costs. 1300 aed seems excessive! |

Maybe the Post Office needs the revenue. |

I would be willing to bet huge sums of money that the post office does nothing but collect the money. (no university in the US would release any information to some post office clerk overseas... it would be against the law) Even when these documents are "certified" in the US, no university is ever contacted. This whole process proves nothing beyond the fact that a person has picture identification to prove that they are who they say they are (driver's license/passport)... and that they are able to sign their name.
