Thanks to all for the informative postings. I havn't seen any that quite help with my situation. I am Canadian, over 50 and am a college graduate with a graduation diploma. Canadian post secondary education, for those not familiar, has college or university as options. I opted for art college. The diploma , obviously, is not a BA but I am wondering what, if any recognition it may have. I have seen some job postings that require a degree 'or equivalent'. Upgrading my qualifications may not be a viable option for me, any suggestions?
I am not interested in teaching overseas so much as a way to make money and save, but more as a working/retirement and giving me the freedom to travel. I have travelled in Thailand, Indonesia, Hong Kong, Singapore, Brazil, Mexico, Cuba....etc. I am enamored with culture and lifestyle at a simpler pace.

In Taiwan you can teach with a 2 year degree plus a TEFL certificate.

You might be able to get a job in China. The countries that offer savings are the one's that will require at least a B.A. for sure. You can get a job in South America but it will not pay much.

When you say you are over 50, does this mean you are 51, or a 107 year old Somme veteran?

I have a 62 year old teacher at my school who I wouldn't swap for ten 21 year old, just left university, 'the world owes me a living', types.

But, remember Asia is not a nice place to be if bits are falling off you. I remember a 65 year old teacher in China who was a virtual prisoner in his flat because of the polution, humidity and general aches and pains.

The validity of your qualifications varies from country to country so choose a place and check it out. Some countries don't give you a visa without a BA, some do.

Generally speaking your age is not a barrier to employment.

The over abundance of teachers wanted in Korea and China will render age to not be very important. But a B.A. is needed in Korea.
