I used to support the AKP until I realized that the only freedom that they were fighting for was "theirs" meaning the ideas and people that support them. The need to remove the Islamic agenda and focus on developing the country.

I believed that they were actually going to create positive measures in the country but more and more Turkey looks like an ultra conservative place. A far cry from 5 years ago when it was a bit more liberal in it's acceptance of others. I feel sorry for the minorities and "us" the yabanci. We have no rights. I think they fail to realize that their mentality towards the "others" is hardly open or tolerant.

That's my two cents.

The BBC report suggests that (perhaps) the abbatoir was closed in order for it to try to meet EU standards, that is at least possible.

However, tonight I come to this site to seek refuge from a youtube-less internet. That is surely closed by the secularists who are too f***ing sensitive about the great father figure to allow any idiotic criticism, when will they grow up?

Perhaps it's all brought about by the anarchists sited here : http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2008/may/04/turkey.thefarright

This report comes from one of the more level headed UK papers.

I'm curious to hear people's views - fundamendalist/secularist/anarchist plot? One way or another things look bad. Or do they?
