Oh, I don't know, Stephen, I'm sure we can still offer a bit of advice...something along the lines of this quiz excerpt, perhaps?

Quote:
Q4) Each time you meet, you and your boss shower each other with:
a) kisses
b) polite banter
c) sarcasm and complaints
d) whacks with baseball bats

_____________________________________________________________

For every a) answer, you can reckon on a month's pay towards your bonus/reward; for every b), a week's; for every c), perhaps a day's (if you're lucky); and for every d), "nuffink".

In the full quiz, there are 12 questions, so you could potentially "earn" up to a year's pay!!!

Your boss isn't a very attractive potential shower partner then, Justin?

Somehow, the image that flashed into my mind, and I REALLY didn't appreciate it, was of a former colleague with a former boss.

And, no, now that you mention it, middle aged out of shape men with tendencies towards hairyness aren't my thing at all.

Best,
Justin

They were in the shower together?! Surprised

I take it that this describes your current boss. What was the old boss like (and the former colleague too, come to mention it)?

Sorry for the prurient interest, but it's a bit slow where I am (if not here on Dave's too sometimes), and there's nothing like a bit of "scandal gossip rumour" over a morning coffee (well, that's how I slurp mine down, anyway!). Sorry that I made you spit your earlier cuppa all over your screen!

Actually I can understand nature girl's reply (and feelings). In Japan too many places are just happy to take your plans with a pat on the back. If you are on good terms with the boss, you might get a promotion out of it, which might be worth more than the month's salary in the long run. Of course, if you plan not to stay, then...

Hi --- I haven't found out abiut the money yet -- she is reviewing my work as we speak. But in the mean time I do have other news. I handed her a few pieces of the syllabus that I wrote b/c she wanted to see how it was coming along and wanted to make sure that the format I used was to her liking. Now........ she's asking me if I can make some changes to the content. There are some things that she likes and some things that she feels warrant a larger explanation (some activities I've written in). So now I have to go back and make some corrections -- is this crazy? I have this feeling that this is just getting ridiculous but then again, I've never done this, so I don't know.

I think you should settle the payment before spending lots of time expanding the work!!

It sounds as though she isn't asking for corrections so much as for more detail there (undoubtedly so that next year's teacher can follow your plans).

I think I would try saying to her that you've spent substantial time on this already, and the proposed additional information is probably going to take X more time, and so you feel you need to know what she feels the sum total is going to be worth, in the end, before you commit more of your time to the project.

But, of course, I don't know you or your boss personally, so I can't say whether this is definitely the right course of action.

Having been in similar situations myself in the past, I will be interested to hear how it works out in the end, though.
