Just wondering what the hours are like there? How many per week and what type of hours during the day? Also, what is the housing like? Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance

Anyone willing to part with Hail info?

Hours are 20/week with the possibility of evenings, I believe.

I can't locate the college on googlemaps. Any hints?

Anyone out there? Anyone?

There have been several highly detailed threads about Hail in the past, mostly by brasscat.

Search for Hail, Ha'il, and UOH.

Yeah, right. ...in the past. I read every post but I was hoping to get a tip on how to locate things on google maps. I've scanned the entire Hail region but unless that part of google maps is dated (ie..over 5 yrs old), I can't figure out where the housing is. I do know it's 20km from the campus and other housing is 10km on the ring road. Map reading is my hobby and passion. Yes, I'm a boring guy.

Brasscat's posts were fueled by problems with the recruiting agency.....He uses slanderous and dismissive wording in each of his posts about Hail staff. Therefore they are not insightful, helpful or useful for my needs.

So, out of about 90 or so teachers there, no one who is there now writes on this forum?

Hi
Donot listen to the negative people like Brascat, there is always a dufferent story and look at the bright side.
I got a job offer from Hail university through Tulbah company in the last Sept.07 but hesitated to join it because I've read alot about Hail University on eslcafe especially Brasscat's comments!!
Then, I decide to take the first step and travel to Hail after 4 months!
I paid my ticket not the compnay, from London to Riyadh ( $ 800 ).
then the company paid the ticket from Riyadh to Hail ( SR 200 ) and they deducted it from my first salary !! no problem.
Anyway, I am happy now, the accommodation is very good, fully furnished with free internet and satellite channels, free transport.
The only concern is about the salary, sometimes late for one week or less, not on time.
The nature is beautiful, mountains and desert.
People and students are friendly.
Teaching hours are doddle, no more than 16 hours a week.
the period for 50 minutes.
Salary is good SR 12000, about $3200 a month for 10 months ( if hired by a company ).
There are bright sides.
But if you get a teaching job directly with a Saudi university, put Hail in the second choice because the compnay doesnot give you residency ( Iqama) means no bank account , tickets and driving.
But it is not too bad as we are happy now.
Thanks
Hashim

Is the late salary because you were hired by Tulbah?

I was told we get paid for 12 months. Do you know if this is the case with direct university hires? I spoke with the vice-rector.

What company? Do you mean if the university hires you then they don't give you an Iqama? No bank account? So, how do you get paid...in cash? If we don't have residency, how can we legally remain in the country?

Thank you for your response Hashim. It really helps to clear some things up.

Would you be able to tell me where the school is (West ring road/E. ring road, Hwy 65...or what?) Also, where are the acccommodations?

Kind regards,
mytrunkshow

If you are direct hire you will get an Iqama. If you are hired by Al Falak or one of the other "sub-contractors" you MAY be on a business visa. If that is the case - no Iqama, no bank account, no driving licence, no permission for dependants to come and live with you.

Dear Hashim,

I think I understand it now. There seems to be quite a difference in getting hired by Tulbah than directly by the university. I was hired by the university so this will enable me to get an iqama.

My carbon footprint is gonna be huge as I love driving and need that iqama to drive!!!!

______________

BoundforSaudi. Thanx. I found the school. Looks teeny tiny. Now, if the accommodations are 20km west, that would put them in the mountains or out the SE highway. Hmm. I will need a car for sure.

Hi
Yes, if you are a direct hire you will get IQAMA and can open bank account and drive. you will get paid for 12 months.
If you hired through Tulbah you will get paid for 10 moths and no Iqama, but your Biz visa renewed regularly every 3 months, I traveled by this visa to Jeddah and dammam no problem.
If you are direct hire, why donot come !! why hesitated, come on, donot listen to the negative people like Brasscat!
I am happy now with the teaching staff, most of them from US,UK,canada and NZ, they are clean, honest, sraight and helpful, except Brasscat who was teaching here and got fired last year !!
The department now is pure!
Donot be hesitated, come and live it is a rich and productive experience.
The school located on the ring road, and the accommodation is very good in Al-MASHAR just down the mountains and well-protected by police.
People are friendly and respect the foreigners.
Many holidays, just relax !
You can travel to Jeddah, Riyadh, dammam, Al-Khobar in SA, Sharm Al-Shaikh in Egypt is just 10 hours by car from Hail !
You can save money easily in Hail.
Good luck and hope to see you here so soon.

Well, what more could you ask for? Even though the locals are ''friendly and respect foreigners'', your accommodation is well-protected by police!
Just in case, I suppose! Wink

Even though I find life in KSA tolerable and even sometimes pleasant, I wouldn't trust anyone who describes a job here as "a rich and productive experience"! Rolling Eyes
