First time arranging an international trip for myself. I'm willing to bet I'm going to forget something important. So here's what I know I'll need. Any additions welcome
Plane ticket
Visa (a whole nother post in itself)
Travel Insurance
Some kind of banking arrangement to get money from abroad back home. |

If you're thinking about going to China, it would be a good idea to post your question about when to look for a job on the China board. |

With China get yourself a job and Z visa first before coming as many are having problems currently with the Games coming up with visas.
Also with the slowdown of recent in the US economy the competition for good jobs has gone up considerably. There are still plenty of poorly paid jobs however.
Visa card and Master card can be used to access money here from banks but its another matter entirely to put deposits into your master card if you have to make payments. You need to do a TT bank transfer and its complicated to say the least. |

As Anda said. So I think you are missing the first step, knowing the rules of the country.
No job, no visa. Get both first.
Power of attorney if you have any one at home you trust. The best way to get a cheap ticket is to call some of the ticket agencies in the City that are run by Chinese. They can also help apply for your visa once you get the invitation letter. The university or Chinese comunity nearest you can help you with some questions |

The question of how to get money from abroad back home may not be totally pressing, given what I've heard about many salaries in China. Why is this a concern?
Best,

Hi!
You really need to get the visa and employer situation straight first. You can easily get burned, especially now that the pre Olympics scrutiny is going on.
All of your questions, and more, can be answered in the free guide to living and teaching in China found at http://www.middlekingdomlife.com
I wish you well. Please remember, a bit of research can prevent a huge amount of disappointment and frustration when coming to China.
Look forward to seeing you here! |
