Hello,

Can someone tell me what the general dress code is for male instructors at ZU? For example, do they wear suits, or can one get by with khakis w/ a dress shirt/tie, no tie, etc.

Also, is there much nightlife in AD? In comparison, say, to Dubai - a number of decent bars, restaurants, etc., where you can have a drink, meet single people in their 30s, 40s, 50s, etc.

Thank you!

My understanding of the ZU dress code is that khakhis and a shirt with tie is fine. You don't need to wear a suit. I was also told on the sly that a dress shirt without a tie is also acceptable, though I won't try it until I get a good feel for the place.

Some things, such as what you mention above are best left until you are actually settled in the country/ city. I am always suprised at the sort of questions asked prior to starting a new job. Honestly, where is the sense of adventure. Is it imperative to know this prior to departure? You will discover these things once you are in the city and have time to excplore.

Thanks for the info Mandalayroad...

Cmp45, not sure how you would confuse a lack of "spirit of adventure" with what is commonly known as "research" - one of the primary functions of this and any forum...

Does anyone have some productive input regarding pros/cons of AD vs. Al Ain?

Thank you.

White shirt
Black tie
Black pants
Black nametag, with your name on it.

To be fair to my friends, I know the dress code is changing -- it's just a little friendly teasing.

for info on entertainment, dining, drinking establishments etc. try
http://www.timeoutabudhabi.com/

and if these topics are important to you, then yes, it's important to do research prior to accepting/coming so that you have an idea of what to expect - it's one thing to have a spirit of adventure, another to be completely blindsided Wink

I can understand if you were moving to a rural place, but it's Abu Dhabi, a friggin huge city! Of course there will be restaurants galore and bars too!
relax....why not let this aspect of social life unfold.

I doubt you will get blindsided in such a large city!

Not a lot of people consider Abu Dhabi to be a large city, and it's certainly less popular than its sister Dubai. AUH, in my experience, is more of a family city than Dubai. If you've been told that Dubai has a lively nightlife that I would say that AUH, in comparison, has less of a nightlife. There are still pubs, clubs, etc. but it is a different pace of life. The OP is just trying to get a feel for what to expect. Tain't nothin' wrong w/ that.
