|
|
Just wondering the current state of affairs.
I know one building evicted everyone on very short notice creating even more of a housing crunch for some schools.
Last time I have driven by Fujairah towers it looked like it was in the middle of a construction site. Does anyone know what the building itself is like to live in?
Also what is the state of purchasing places? Is that an option yet? Is there anything coming online in the forseeable future?
/me thinks it maybe time to weigh the other options available |

HCT teachers seem to do ok with the housing available. Teachers are generally put into Fujairah Tower - nice views but the windows are high up and quite small.
There are flats in the new Rostamani building as you come into town - they are very nice but unfortunately the gym and pool which were promised by the end of of last year still aren't ready.
There's another building almost opposite where teachers are, think they're ok. For families there's the 'white village' a compound with villas.
IAT teachers have to find their own housing from what I can gather and am not sure of the situation anywhere else.
I don't have any info about buying property but wouldn't think about until at least 2010............ |

Now, those "White Villas" sound nice. Have you seen them Kaw? How were they? |

the end of civilization....Fujariah is.
eeeek. dont go there if you value your happiness.
unless you like hanging out with Pakistani, Afghani and Indian labourers on the corniche.
buy..Haha ..hell no don't waste your money.
poorly constructed buildings, over inflated prices, you have no human rights and get in a car accident and they can put you in jail, take all your money, and deport you.
There is little to no recourse in the UAE. Sure there is a legal system. But it is barbaric and will almost never ever go in your favour. The UAE is still a highly 'tribal' society, based on a 'controlling few families'.
If anyone cares to dispute this, i suggest they speak to authorities in their own countries who will also advise you DON'T BUY IN THE UAE.
Bad life decision #4008.
HCT VS. IAT. lol, as if there is even a comparison.
HCT pays almost double. Actually hires native speakers and give you a decent working schedule. Salaries do reflect qualifications, and you can save. Politics is the biggest game at HCT, but where isn't it. Especially at a 'good' place. Good is an not really a word that can describe any where in the GULF. But you go there for the money, and try to be 'happy'.
IAT, famous for 'Lebanese' (=crap) style management, poor, low salaries, a few token native teachers at each campus only, mostly hire non-natives. And no housing, no help with housing and not enough money to live in a 'Western' area.
Abu Dhabi University, lol, the laughing stock of all the places in the UAE.
Extremely poorly managed, and teachers are fired willy, nilly. Then a big hiring campaign follows. Low quality education. You work here, you try to make it thru the month, then the week, then the day, then it's an hour by hour count down till you 'leave'. If your lucky you won't get fired before the end of your 'short contract'. And if your smart, you won't go there. Lebanese management once again. |

Uh... back to the topic -
The White Village is full. HCT has the contract on some, as does the port and other companies. A person can't find a villa in the WV without going through their company (if that company already has housing there). There are few villas to be had anymore anywhere in Fujairah. Housing is still better than Dubai, but a lot of people working in the outskirts of Dubai now rent in Fujairah because the housing is less than 1/2 the price.
There is a lot of building going on, so maybe more villas will become available, but for now, the choice is gone. It used to be a renter's paradise. |

As someone who left Fujairah not long ago, I don't really see why people don't like it. I lived there for a good few years and really enjoyed my time there. Yes, there are fewer western expats there but still it is a pleasant place to live.
Salaries paid in Fujairah in HCT and IAT are the same as those paid in the other campuses. Yes, the housing allowance allocated is lower but accommodation in Fujairah is significantly less (although starting to rise) than places like Abu Dhabi/Dubai. Lebanese management? - not that I know of.
Fujairah is growing by the day, I saw that in the time that I was there and as I was leaving new buildings/developments were being built and planned daily. There are a few western hangouts, with the Fuj Tennis Club being the most recent.
As for the mix of cultures/nationalities - yes, there are a number of Asian people living there but tell me somewhere in the UAE where this situation is different?!
Hope this helps! |

I agree with meteacher (might even know you!) I lived in Fujairah for 5years and when I left, I was actually kinda sad to say goodbye. I have been back twice to visit since. You actually meet people, rather than milling around the city with them. Yeah, it's small, but it grows on you and it is great for babies/young children (probably hell for teenagers, though!)
The White Village is ok, but nothing fantastic, though the gardens are great, if you move into a place that has been taken care of. I lived in a villa just behind the WV, brand new, 3bdr, nice yard, 30,000Dhs A YEAR!!! That was a couple years ago, and I heard it has almost doubled, but STILL, what do you get for 60K in Dubai???
I have been to way worse places... |

Reviews from people living in Fuj tower are mixed. Some love it.
The most often voiced complaint seems to be the high windows, meaning that you can't really see out (unless I guess you are really tall, or sit on very high stools). The three-bedroom apartments are nice and spacious - the two-bedroom places not as much. Of course it's convenient for Lulu and the Siji hotel (walking distance), and the downstairs has a number of fast-food cafes and a new, nice, Italian type cafe. |
