I hope I'm not asking a stupid question but I'm trying to figure out if it's possible to find a job at an international school starting in Dec/Jan. I'm looking in UAE/Kuwait/Oman. Here is some information about me:

American currently living in England
MA in TESOL
BA in Elementary Education
3 years teaching elementary students, 4th grade
1 year working with adults, teaching a workshop on how to get a job
6 months experience teaching English to children

My contingency plan is to teach at a language school either in ME or Thailand if I cannot get into an international school. So my other question is: Are language schools that bad? I've read some bad things about them but I'm looking to work for about 1 year so even if it's not great I think I can handle it for that amount of time, as long as I'm in a good location.

Any and all comments are greatly appreciated!

In Oman the semester break is in January, and there may be vacancies if teachers leave mid-year. I'm speaking only about colleges and universities (my personal experience), but I imagine that international schools have the same schedule.

teachers always leave around break time, you should have no problem. But you might have to sign a two year contract.

In much, though by no means all, of Latin America, January or February could be the start of the school year.

Best,

Thank you all for comments. I've been getting some interest from Oman and the Ministry of Higher Education. Any pros or cons for working with them?

Where in Oman? If you check the Oman forum, you'll see loads of posts about current events here--most of them negative. Sad Life can still be fairly easy and comfortable here, though.

denise, thanks for the reply, I have been checking out the Oman forum and things do seem very negative, except from duffy Smile I'm still doing some research and checking things out.
