I have posted this same question under the general ASIA form, am fishing for info on the MALDIVES.
Do you know anyone or anything about working in the Maldives?
I never ever hear about it on davescafe. No news is oft good news right?
Am looking at a management job in a few months connected to a large resort.
send me a pm or post response thanks. |

| Must because either there are few and far jobs there. Or it's the best kept secret. |

The resorts are normally on previously uninhabited islands. The government puts an island out for auction and leases it out to the highest bidder. Then the company imports everything, including the sand for the concrete, and builds its hotel. All staff come from the inhabited islands and normally live for months away from their families.
The tourists are flown in by sea-plane where they spend a week of splendid seclusion on the white sands and blue sea, attended by the imported natives.
In other words a top-class tourist destination, for a week, and just the place to go crazy in when you are sentenced there for months on end. |

ya, it sort of seemed like that. You are probably right though, the social life might just be dreadful, and people do come to be in seclusion in their huts.
I also read that the Maldives has a serious heroin problem. It has basically crippled communites. And the gov't ....shameful. Most of the islanders live in dire poverty, and some are still displaced by the Tsunami.
Am still looking for info about what it is actually like to live there, but maybe I already can imagine it.
HA'IL....no thanks. Am tired of the ME, at least for now. |
