BK,

If I ever need a private investigator, I'm gonna PM you. Sam Spade's got nothing on you.

Have you tried those telephone numbers?

There were some UAE government authorities mentioned by name in the Gulf News article. If someone picks up the telephone representing the "Ministry of Language Studies", drop a dime on them. (That's what you'se private eyes calls it, right? "drop a dime"?) Or contact the member of the fourth estate who wrote the article.

Anyway, thanks for posting the contents of the letter. Now the text of that too will further enhance SEO of this scam.

Kiefer,

Thanks. Actually, I used to work for the NSA (during the Cold War), intercepting and decoding tactical radio and civilian telephone messages of Warsaw Pact countries. (I could tell you more, but then I would unfortunately have to kill you.)

Quite amazingly, I just received an apologetic message from the folks at Hotmail abuse (! ?), which I would like to share with all of you.

Dear MSN abuse,

This is the FIFTH time I have reported this scam to you. (See their message below.) This is a classical 419- fraud.

YOUR address "[email protected]" is being used by fraudsters, who have no right to use the logos or name of the United Arab Emirates.

If you doubt this, then you should see this NEWSPAPER INVESTIGATION of these scammers.

Please close these guys down as soon as possible.

So these guys went right back to those fools at the ".TK" registry and got themselves a 'NEW' website (and accompanying email address) just by adding an "s" to the name of the old one. Now they're back in business, pretending (once again) to be Immigration Officers for the UAE.

Clever; very, very clever! I wish half my students were half as determined to succeed as these scammers are.

Kiefer, you got the last .TK website shut down.
How about doing the same to this one?

Lets's see what tomorrow brings........

Good news:

Quote:

Sorry, we were unable to deliver your message to the following address.

<[email protected]>:

Remote host said: 550 Requested action not taken: mailbox unavailable

So, we finally got this address closed.

On other fronts... their newest dot-TK website address (see my posting, immediately above) is still "up", but they don't answer any of the emails "we've" sent to it. Maybe they're laying low, just waiting for the recent Gulf News publicity (produced by Kiefer's contacting the newspaper) to die down.

I found another Gulf News article on them, which was interesting:

http://archive.gulfnews.com/nation/Employment/10189061.htm

The "dot-TK" people aren't concerned enough to close down the scammers' website "pointer", but perhaps the UAE government is exerting some political pressure on the "home country" government of these fraudsters, making it crack down on such scams. (It's been tried before.)

Only time will tell if we got these bums to "ride on".

In the meantime, here are a few interesting websites I've found, dealing with problems like this:

http://www.scamdex.com/

http://www.scam.com/

http://www.scambusters.org/

http://www.scamwatch.gov.au/content/index.phtml/itemId/693900

http://www.hotscams.com/

Until next time...

I wrote the dot TK people a month ago, No response.

The Phisher kings are a menace. They must be profiting in some measyre or they wouldn't be so resilient.

Just keep hammering away--like Bobby Kennedy going after Jimmy Hoffa Wink --no let up!

You guys are great for following this up, and without personal benefits attached other than perhaps altruistic ones. Although obviously time-consuming, you've been persistent. Thanks on behalf of those who are unaware of the potential money and heartache you have saved them.

Sad So now what do I do? I sent my resume and all my other info to this site that I thought was UAE Ministry of Labour as advertised on a site called ESLemployment. What exactly is the scam? Do jobs actually not exist?
So how do I find a job in the UAE thru the real MOL or some other source?

Have you provided any money or passport info? If not, no worries. I think their scam is that they eventually collect money for visa fees, but I can't be sure. The jobs don't exist.

This site runs a number of ads for employers in the UAE, but your best bet is contacting them directly. Where you can work depends on your experience and qualifications. If you're not a k-12 qualified teacher the UAE is not for you.

HI,
well I got the same emails but only got to the part where he sent me the email address to get the visas. I got suspicious when there was no website and the email address was turkey. Also, these people only replied when I wrote to them asking the status. They were very prompt to the day. Most employers dont respond immediately when they dont write back for one week and you write to them. I have another offer from ther that is a bit suspicious from Abu Dhabi Univ but checking it out with their human resources right now.

Actually .tk is not Turkey, but some island in the pacific which allows sleazy businesses to use their domain without any real legal control. (you can check them on Wikipedia)

Avoid anything with that address.

So we're EFL teachers who are interested in coming to the gulf.
Can anyone PM me with LEGITIMATE recruiters/sites and can you tell me how much salaries should really be?
We have 2-3 years experience and TEFLs, and she's certified in the US
with 12 years experience.
Save us some stoopit time!
Thanks

Avoid recruiters. The bes thing you can do is familize yourself w/ decent employers and contact them directly and/or plan to attend a job fair. Your wife w/ US certification will be easily employable. Do you have a masters in TESOL?

Your wife should look for salaries between 11,000-15,000 dirhams/month plus some sort of accommodation. That salary range applies to k-12 institutions that hire only certified teachers.
