I have been teaching at this branch of Huazhong U...since the winter holiday was ended. This month, my salary is shorted because the school has decided to charge me for electricity and water. I reminded them of the SAFEA regulations, but to date, nothing has changed. They dont pay all that much to start with, so consider that first. But if you decide to come here, make sure you get it in your contract that they will pay the utilities.
I think that should apply to any school. Make clear what is paid and not paid. Make sure they can provide you with the correct visa and resident permit...before you sign on dotted line. |

According to them they're not hiring anyway. |

I had been told that probably they would hire one more ft...but maybe they changed their minds.
I was told today after a discussion about SAFEA, that I would get my money back. The foreign affairs lady is really pretty good about such things. |

The Universities that pay utilities seem to be about 50/50.
Some have said things in the contract like 'to protect the environment teacher will pay own electric'. Funny stuff.
I would never sign a vague contract on this point though as electric is a big pain in the ass in January-February/July-August.
Hope you get your money. |

Thanks, I got it back today, in fact. The foreign affairs lady is first class... unlike some I have had. |
