Have been considering a position at AISJ - American International School in Jeddah. Hoping someone in Jeddah might have some information for me. Sounds like a reliable place with an ok pay scale. Has anyone worked there or know about the school.
Thanks in advance for any information or insight. |

When we lived in Jeddah our eldest daughter went to the school. At that time it was still run by Saudi Arabian Airlnes. It was a good school. There have been changes but it is probably still okay. A minority of pupils then were from US. The number must be even smaller now. |

From what I hear from the wind on and off, the school has gone down the drain since Saudia relinquished authority and a bunch of private people bought it out. I personally don't know how it is, but apparently it is not as good as it used to be, both for students and for teachers.
Good luck.
P.S. Apply to the Continental School (British International School of Jeddah) in Jeddah. It is far better, and pays better as well.

There is also Jeddah Prep. Is it now called "Jeddah Prep and Grammar School". Not many British kids there now though. |

I didn't mention JPGS on purpose. If you love working under a draconian egomaniacal head, that's the place for you. |

Thank you for the heads up. I would consider applying for a position at the British school except I am an American (and American certified) and my experience has shown me that most British schools would perfer Brits, Aussies, and Kewi's. From what I have been told about AISJ they have a fairly new admin staff (all filled within the 2 years) and are trying to make progressive changes. Was also told that 25% of the students are Americans. Decisions Decisions.... again thank you |

Maybe they 'prefer' Brits, but I know for a fact that there a few American teachers at the British school. In fact, if you ask me, they don't discriminate or differentiate as long as you are qualified.
As for the "25% of the students are Americans", that should be qualified to "25% of the students are American citizens". Almost all the students at AISJ are Lebanese, Palestinians, Syrians, Egyptians, and some Saudis as well. It is just that 25% of them happen to be US citizens.
[Yes, there are some white students at AISJ, BISJ, etc, but they are about 1-2% of the total.] |
