If you haven't finished your degree perhaps you might consider an exchange course through your university.
Seville and Valencia are crawling with people doing such courses. My first choice in a Spanish University would be Salamanca but any of them should provide with you with a valuable experience - as well as networking contacts in Spain for when you do leave school.
Such a course of action would put you miles and miles ahead of the 4 week TEFL course I took in Barcelona. No cabe duda. |
I have opted to defer my entry to september '09 so I haven't started yet. As part of the degree (in the third year) I would be doing an erasmus exchange programme. Is this what you're referring to or is that something else? |

I am sure that as long as your check is good that your age will not be a barrier to cashing it - so they will be glad to enroll you.
If you have been teaching for 5 years, you may find a TEFL course to be somewhat tedious. I say that because you will be taught to do it the TEFL way. You may well have to unlearn a lot of things in order to pass the course - which is taught in lock step. This may have a good side effect in that you can decide after you graduate whether or not you wish to teach in a school that follows the TEFL model heavily.
Bottom line - if you resist the offers to go get drunk with your colleagues - it probably won't hurt you much and may be of use down the line. |

A well-adjusted 18 year old would have made a far better teacher than at least half the student body in my TEFL course.
I thought I saw somewhere up there in the thread that the OP had been teaching 5 years, but if not then my previous advice about doing an exchange year with an American university and a Spanish one is even more apropos. |
