Are these statements conjecture or facts based on personal experience or direct contact with someone who had personal experience with STA?

C'mon, current/former STA guys, help us out. Cool

You seem to have missed the distinction between "recruiter" and "employer". The one I had experience was an employer who subcontracted staff to Samarec. That is not the same as "recruiting." This is now common practice in KSA, Qatar and Kuwait. ARAMCO and QP do it all the time.

Why do seek to trivialise my experience by describing it as an "anecdote" ?

I suppose your position is

I have insights
You have stories
He has anecdotes

First, no, I didn't miss the distinction. I merely pointed out the significant differences in compensation provided to different people, under different employment contracts, doing basically the same job, for firms that are closely associated.

Second, get a grip, Dude! You are far too sensitive. I don't recall saying that my info constituted a 'story', and 'anecdotes' are precisely those kernels of experience which often enlighten. See definition for anecdote below:

Anecdote:
a short account of an incident (especially a biographical one)

This is not in defence of Scot47 but rather a random observation.

Why is it that newbies on these fora are snippy while replying to veterans? I mean, how on earth do they expect helpful answers to their questions from others (veterans or not) who would be made wary by such behaviour?

Never fails to amaze me!

Incidently, the STA contract I was informed of was for 48 hours per week, with 6 hours of contact time per day. The 48-hour clause is included to provide the firm the flexibility to schedule weekend work when required.

This is news to me but they never sent me a contract. The job is looking less attractive. By the way, has it occured to anyone that STA may not be pocketing half of your salary? How do you know that the RSAF and BAE aren't taking their cuts too?! The point is you don't. None of us do. But I suspect that it is a definite possibility.

Tefl-landia is like the Wild West. The young braves always think they know better than the wise elders.

Maybe I should leave these impetuous young bucks to charge off into the sunset and get slaughtered by the Apaches.

Wisdom is welcome and appreciated. Ego trips on the forum (incredible), arrogance, and personal criticism are not.

If you want to help, stick to the topic.

And you expect a current/former STA guy to come and post without reservations, after this post of yours, do you?

The keywords here are "without reservations".

Some people have unrealistic expectations. Post a question and by MAGICK the wished-for answer will appear. And if it is not the answer they want, they can throw a hissy fit.

Good point. I suppose if the job was as good as STA makes it sound, then someone would have come to defend them by now seeing that this is at least the third thread that they have been mentioned in. Still, you'd think one of the current teachers could at least help out a fellow teacher and send some private messages to people who are considering taking the job. That's not an unrealistic expectation. That's just common courtesy to your fellow teacher. If you were about to take a job and had some reservations about it, then you'd want someone in the know to give you the heads up, wouldn't you? It's not like they have to post right here in the thread. They could send a palm.

Dear NCTBA,

Never knew that you'd had the copyright. Very Happy

You've got those 10 Ds.

Maybe we could share a Guinness someday!

Regards,

Lall.

Perhaps the reason someone from STA hasn't posted is that they are too exhausted after spending 6 hours a day and up to 48 hours a week in the classroom - as per the contract. Conversely, it could be that they are simply too busy enjoying life in a posh compound to care what's being discussed here! Smile

More likely a case of not wanting to upset the applecart.
Similar reluctance has been observed from SQU and Caledonian, Oman.
