Just was wondering. Where would you say was the place in the world where a white guy could go and regardless of his lack of qualifications, social skills or even personal hygiene could land a teaching gig no problem?
Put another way. Is there anywhere where that hillbilly redneck character from the Simpsons could rock up to and be employed within the week? |

zhongguo huanying ni!
china, easy. there are guys with severe mental illnesses, learning disabilities, criminal records, whatever, teaching here. that's almost the norm. when you meet a foreign teacher in china, the first thought is: "so what's wrong with this person?" |

I'd like to say that was an acute ironical joke on my part, but have to raise my hands up and say it was pure incompetancy It was a typo though unlike the other spelling mistakes.
But hey, why do you think I wanna know this info? |

Korea had a reputation for employing pikers in the late 90s - maybe still worth a look. Check out the Korea forum... |

'S ok, Nabby, I'll give you the benefit of the doubt.
Asia seems to be well-represented in the "sketchy teacher" category - I've met a fair few here in Indonesia.

Doctor: After conducting the physical examination, I have to tell you that you have acute appendicitis.
Blonde: Oh, thank you. Glad you like it, doctor.
BOOM! BOOM!
I'll get my coat. |

Latin America will employ losers, the clueless, and the truly weird without much hesitation. Problem is, if that's truly your type, you'll usually only land low-end, sketchy work. And most of the low-end, sketchy side of the market pays crap, and screws you around where visas are concerned.
If you're interested in Latin America, I wonder to what extent you could disguise your "imcompetence?" Can you make it look good on a resume? Get an online TEFL and a tie? Maybe download a degree someplace? If you have any addiction problems, how can you make sure they don't show during the interview?
There are a lot of incompetent people around here, no question. But you'll improve your situation considerably if you find ways to look at least as competent as the pack. (Which isn't super-competent in any case.)
I'm being semi-tongue-in-cheek here, but honest. I don't believe that teaching is a good field for the incompetent, the insane, or the terminally crappy. But in Ecuador at least, there are openings for all of the above, nonetheless.
Best,
Justin

China and South Korea still employ the old "white guy=good teacher: white girl with boobies=great teacher" hiring standard. |
