-Moving onto the Chugo-ku region, Hiroshima/Miyajima was a biiiig highlight for me. Especially Miyajima. Really, one of the most beautiful places in Japan and a must-see. Make sure you also check out one of the okonomi-yaki places in the city because the Hiroshima-style ones are delicious.

I have to agree about the okonomiyaki in Hiroshima. I've had it here in Okinawa (it's not a local thing so so-so...) Kyoto and Osaka (which is where everybody told me to try it) and by far the best one I had was is a restaurant in Hiroshima train station. We did the city in a one day shinkansen run from Kyoto. And got caught looking for food at the end of the day in the train station, which is usually a recipe for mediocre eats.
It was mostly negi with 2 thin pancakes either side and a slim garnish of meat (probably pork). And they even had real beer! Not the piss colored lager that is the only thing you can get in Japan most fo the time. I wish I remembered the brand. I ordered it because it was local to the city, is all I can recall. |
