i'm currently thinking about going to a new country and i've read these stickies about general experiences in different countries on the coinciding forum index. mexico, czech etc. they're all a bit old. many of them are more than 4-5 years old. i used to work in a book store and we apreciated the classics but even guide books which are published yearly, or even bi-tri-quad-yearly are more current. one would expect better on the internet. i guess there's not much better to chose from. rather sad actually

can anyone update a country or two with a concise current and correct assesment?

Aside from Mexico and Czech, which ones did you have in mind? The country-specific FAQ stickies are usually maintained (I use the word loosely) by volunteers. Some may have moved on.

You'll have to read through the posts to find out. A good place to start, other than here of course, would be Transitions Abroad.

For living and teaching in China, there is a current and fairly comprehensive guide at:
http://www.middlekingdomlife.com

Sorry, I don't know where to find similar guides for other countries.

Perhaps others can jump in here and help if they know.
