When is the best time to arrive in Mexico and slip comfortably into a job as fast as possible?
Aug? Sept? |

For primary, secondary, or post-secondary schools, you should have made your contacts already and in most cases, would need to be in Mexico for the start of August.
If you're in to scoop up work by knocking on doors for the same schools above, hoping for a late slot, then anytime in August will do.
For language schools, year round pretty much. |

Right NOW! Just come on down to Mexico City and you will have a job for the start of the new school year if you got a decent resume and some kind of TEFL. Being clean cut and dressing nice helps and generally between the ages of 25-35 or 40. Being too young or old hurts, but you could find a job anyways. |

I'm soon to be 63 and have never found my age to be a problem when looking for work here. |

Congrats MO39!
I wanted to let the OP know that some have an age policy. Most of the colegios and business English places don't seem to care. But some do. As do a number of language institutes. It's best to realize that some places here just don't hire you if you're under or over a certain age. It seems to happen less to English teachers, esp. native ones, but it does happen. |

Thanks for your early happy birthday wishes!
Regarding schools who have age policies for the hiring of teachers, I wonder if any pattern is obvious. That is, do the better schools have these policies, the not-so-great ones, the really bad ones, or is it all over the map? |

I am 57, nearer to 58 than MO39 is to 63, and likewise I have not had much of an age discrimination issue, as far as I can see. I have run into a gender issue, however, mostly in the Yucatan. Apparently, some mothers think their teenage daughters will develop crushes on the good looking, exotic gringo teacher who will take advantage of the starry-eyed teen. |
