Just wondering if anyone has found good jobs through Angela's website for Esl teachers? Also can anyone comment on how long it is taking them to get a visa. Will it be possible to start a job in August or Sept when all the documentation has come?

i have checked angela's sporadically for years. the pay rates there seem low.

i have been in country (this time around) for two months. still, my visa has not yet been fully processed. they all blame it on the olympics.

very frustrating.

My understanding is that in using them, you never talk to the school directly, a huge mistake.

Personally, I feel they take ads for schools from other sites, put it on their site, and then if you apply wanting that school, they will try to get a cut, or, because you don't know what school it is, they can redirect you to another school.

never use a medium that does not let you talk to the school directly at some point

I'm sure it's better to deal directly with the school. However last year I did deal directly with a college and a fAO and it was also a big mistake as they pulled the wool over my eyes and were as dishonest as any recruiter would be. You really need to visit the school you are interested in, not always an easy thing to do.

Well I had a very good run the first year working at a government teachers college but then the principal left then the Chinese head English teacher used me to teach his own private classes during the Summer holidays without pay and then he along with whoever in the office tried to do me out of my airfares and travel allowance. I put my foot down and got my airfares and travel allowance but ever since the Chinese head English teacher has tried to get rid of me.


So now through lies he succeeded in preventing me from reconstructing. Apart from this he has made out that my health is bad despite not missing even one lesson for the last year. I have just passed a full medical without problems. He is also tried other tactics. The college once again has been trying to get out of paying out on airfares and travel allowance.

I got the job through Jiangsu Education Center for International Exchange and they have sided with my college over what they said about my health. However I am lucky to have some very good Chinese friends that have helped me otherwise I wouldn�t have been successful in getting the new position that I have signed a contract for.

I spent eight and a half years teaching in South Korea and never had suffered anything like the dishonesty that I have suffered here. Don't ever think working for the government here will be found to be more honest and thrust worthy than a private sector because it isn't.

Moon Over Parma I just posted what I did to show more or less that it is very much luck here to get decent treatment. Private, government along with requiters are all much the same to deal with.

If anything I think people expect too much out of requiters as they are only agents who advertise the positions and fill the language gap and process the paperwork. Contracts are with whoever employees you full stop. Requiters get a one off payment in general which they earn in regard to having to do all the paperwork etc.

If there is a way of picking a good job I would say that it is finding a place that is dealing with those that can afford to pay for their education is the best way to go. A high level public school, an expensive institute will have the resources to pay properly and supply material / equipment for teaching. Places on a low budget are more likely to penny pinch.
