Hi! I am thinking about coming to Egypt to teach. Are there any teachers in Egypt who could pass some helpful advise on to me. Right now I am teaching in China.
Thanks! |

Hi,
I see that this is your first posting on this board. Let me give a piece of general advice. Have you read this whole section of the board on Egypt? Have you gone to the job information journal and read what it has to say about living and teaching in Egypt? If you have not, I think that you should do it now.
Your question is so vague that it is really unanswerable. Who are you? What are you? What are you goals? What is your training and experience? For useful advice, you must ask for something more specific than 'helpful'---

Hi,
VS Thanks for your reply. Well like I said before I wanted some information about teaching in Egypt. I have looked over the sites you have suggested and have found them useful.
Now I am teaching in China mostly children. I don't have a teaching degree or anything like that. What I do have however is experience both in teaching and in managment of a school and teachers.
So basically, I want to relocate to Egypt to teach and I was wondering what are some of the conditions to teach in Egypt. One of the main reasons for teaching in Egypt is that I want to learn Arabic an study about Ancient Egyptian Culture.
Could you give me any more helpful advice?
Cheers,

Hi Brian,
Egypt is a great place to teach EFL. Do you have a CELTA or Trinity Certificate?
If not you can get one in Cairo - they run courses at IH in Heliopolis: [email protected]
If yes, you should have no problem getting a job as you've already got some experience.
What kind of information do you need?
Cairo is a fascinating place. It's easy to get around in, and there are endless places to explore. The cost of living is pretty low - salaries cover housing and necessities with plenty left over for holidays in Egypt. Holidays are fantastic: desert safari's, scuba diving in the Red Sea, boat rides down the Nile, plus all the Pyramids and Pharonic temples you could ever wish for!
Good schools provide work visas and Arabic classes. Ours also pays teachers for attending weekly development sessions which are fantastic.
Arabic students are generally friendly and enthusiastic - they love lively classes and active teachers who'll challenge them. They're interested in sharing their culture and learning about ours, so teachers are often invited out for a meal or to go sightseeing with their students.
What more can I say?
Feel free to e-mail me if you've got more specific questions: [email protected]
Best wishes for a Happy New Year,
Bill |
