Native English speakers don't need pre-acceptance interview.

Hey Raman,

I am a native English speaker and have a pre-acceptance telephone interview appt. Sounds like it will be quite lengthy. Any idea as to content?

Thanks.

I don't know maybe so you can learn methods for teaching your students how to form questions properly? Or maybe so your future students will know how to give effective advice on subjects.

gth,
I am just venturing a guess here, but I would assume a preliminary interview would be assess your level of commitment as well as experience levels. I have a TEFL certification, but we were asked to fill out a grammar questionnaire. The function of this was just to assess how much we knew about grammar and methodology. I wouldn't stress out about this interview too much, it is probably as good of an opportunity for you to get a feel for the CELTA process as it is for the CELTA people to feel you out.

Again, I don't really know what it is all about but I'm sure it's much less stressful than you think it will be.

Hey PG,

An extensive grammar questionaire was a large part of the app submitted, and, I had - heard - there was some sort of phone interview. The puzzlement is about how long the interview might be (~ 40 min).

I think I'll be fine. This is just all brand new to me.

Thanks.

I did my phone interview recently and it was pretty painless. I think ILA wanted to hear how fluently I spoke English, and then provided a few scenarios and asked how I would teach them (i.e. how would you teach a basic level class the meaning of the word "hat"). They also touched on the material in the "pre-application task" (describe the difference in meaning between two sentences).

Overall, it was a very simple phone interview and mine lasted between 40-60 minutes. The ILA rep seemed very casual and I didn't feel like I was under much pressure during the call.

Hey Suvving,

Your description was very good; accurate.

My interview was last night and all went well. My interviewer was affable, friendly and non critical, but skilled. Instead of teaching about 'hat', my task was a 'skirt'. I described the difference in meaning between two sentences as in the written application. There were no grammar questions as in the written app. A few hypothetical teaching objectives were presented and my task was to present a strategy or methodology for obtaining those objectives.

The interviewer made certain I clearly understood what to expect in terms of intensity and workload during the CELTA class.

The interview lasted ~ 45-50 minutes.

I was told in 2-3 hours I would receive their decision by email. In 45 minutes I rec'd an acceptance.

My distraction was the puzzlement of having an 'interview' in the first place. There is no cause to stress, fret or worry.
