It appears now that I am going to have to go back to the states to get my Z visa. I really don't want to spend $2000 on an airline ticket from Korea.
Has anyone thought about getting all the documents together, EMSing them along with your passport from Asia to a trusted person back home, having that person overnight them to a rush visa service, etc..? |

From my readings it would seems that the requirement is only for a person to hand in and collect with ID but it doesn't have to be the passport holder. So it should be doable. |

If something went totally awry I'd just go to the embassy and say my passport had been lost I reckon. |

Just make sure you have good photo copies of everything. You could also register with your countries embassy in Seoul. Your embassy can also stamp copies of your degree while you are there at an extra cost. Get good color copies of everything as you can do this in Seoul.

Could there be a problem when someone notices that you never received an entry stamp from immigration at the airport?
Oh, you're doing it in Korea, then going to China... Assume someone wants to do this within China, then read the above question. Hmm, maybe that won't work either since one won't have an exit stamp from China...
Can this be done while in China? This has been said many times before, but having to fly all the way back to LA or wherever just for some visa official to give you the sticker is pretty gd lame. |

Haha! I had a big problem with my marriage registration because my current passport does not have my entry stamp in it (third passport issued in China). Otherwise, as long as you submit both your old passport and new when renewing visas in-country (once only), you'll have no problem.
Cheers! |

I'm in the exact same situation as the OP -- currently in Korea, want to teach in China, but they're telling me I need to fly back to my home country. I asked the recruiter what would happen if I just sent my passport and had my parents deliver it. Apparently the Chinese embassy is adamant that you MUST go yourself, at least that's what the recruiter said.
I'm going to call the Chinese embassy on Monday and check to see if I can get the visa from Korea or have my parents drop my passport off in the US, but please, keep me updated as well, because it seems like a real waste of human and natural resources to take someone out of Asia, make them fly back to the US just to collect a sticker, and come back to Asia. |

Check out the other thread that is similar. Visa agents, airline ticketing companies do this all the time. Everytime I go to the New York Consulate, I always see someone coming in with 20 or more visa applications |

Hard to believe, especially given how much the Chinese government cares about the environment |
