Has anyone in the DF worked for either of these schools? If so do they pay OK?
Good hours?
FM3 sponsor?
I have an interview with Berlitz tomorrow and I may call Quick Learning after that. I like the methods they talk about on their websites. I'm still deciding on the kid thing.
Teaching kids doesn't seem to be EFL from what I have observed last week. It's more like babysitting and trying to get them to stay still for 5 seconds. |

If Berlitz in Mexico City is anything like Berlitz in New York City, I wouldn't touch a job offer from them with a ten-foot pole, but that's just me. Others may have more complimentary things to say.
I know nothing about QL, except for the name, which I find truly absurd - there is no quick way to learn anything, especially a foreign language! |

What were they like in New York?
Thanks. |

The main featrures at the NYC branch were lousy pay and a rigid method you had to follow. To make sure that the latter happened, each classroom was "bugged" so management could listen in at any time to make sure you were teaching in the prescribed manner.
Interviews were done in groups, and if you impressed the person explaining the B method and work conditions, you might be called back for an individual interview. I think I asked one or two "unkosher" questions and was not asked back. I got the impression they were mostly looking for bored housewives who needed to pick up a little extra "pin money". Experienced teachers (such as I was then and still am) need not bother to apply! |

I've worked at a language school based here in NYC for several years. I have no personal experience with Berlitz. Yet, everyone I have met that has taught there has told me that they hated the experience and their pay is one of the lowest in the area. |

Just to get your feet under the table in the job market, Berlitz is worth a shot (but keep looking for something better!). QL - leave well alone! There are other posts you can search for which discuss QL in more detail. |

If youre looking for a language school I would suggest the International House on Alfonso Reyes in Condesa. They may just be the best of them all. |

Thanks geaaroson.
By the way, how short does ones hair have to be? I cut mine when I got here but the first place I went to (a private school for kids) they told me I need to cut it more.
I guess it's the length of Owen Wilson or John Lennon. All of the kids call me John Lennon all day. I didn't know the Beatles were sooooo popular here in Mexico. |

I dont believe you will have a problem at IH. If you do, just tell them that you will cut it. |

Boys at private schools typically have their hair checked (once a month, or so), and so the school would expect you to follow their guidelines. Importance of such a rule - no idea! Just one of the few ways a private school can show control I suppose. Other than that, I see no value, nor point in it.
