Think twice before coming to Fujairah.
The schools available are substandard. Many staff at FWC have had to leave in order to ensure a quality education for their children. Others have sent their wife and children back to their home country.
The air quality is very poor especially with the constant blasting of the mountains. Toxic clouds of smoke cover the city on the weekends when the landfill is set alight. If you like the smell of petrol from the oil refinery, then this is the place for you. Those of you with asthma will not be able to manage; it will only get worse.
The beaches are polluted and no sensible person would opt to swim in the ocean. Therefore, be prepared to pay exorbitant fees to either join the Hilton or the Tennis Club. (Check out the frequent oil spills on www.gulfnews.com)
Housing shortage has reached a critical stage.
Add Fujairah to your MUST MISS list!!

Sorry Sally 4th I have to disagree in part. Fujairah isn't that bad.....ok, it can be pretty boring if you're not part of a family and come over to meet people, the air quality isn't too great but after a while you don't really notice it.
The sea I'll admit isn't fantastic but it's ok for swimming in most of the time - people have been doing for it for years and haven't developed extra arms/legs whatever. Further up the coast the beaches are nicer and the sea seems cleaner but as the beaches seem to part of expensive hotels you'll have to pay.
Yes the Hilton is expensive but if you want a decent pool etc that's the only option.

As for social stuff, if you come over a by yourself then bring a lot of books, do some studying, whatever keeps you happy (and remember the bright lights of Dubai aren't too far away). As for people with kids - surely finding good schools can always be a problem no matter where you are in the world. |

I believe that the Hilton and Tennis Club fees are still a way off the (truly) exorbitant fees of the sports and leisure clubs in the cities... |

This type of post is becoming too typical -- remarks that range from overstated to pure fiction. I agree that Fujairah is not that bad. In fact, for me, it sounds like Sally 4th is using this forum to advance her own agenda. |

Nothing stated is fictional or exaggerated. The beaches are filthy as is Fujairah itself. If this then is typical to you, so be it as everyone has their own benchmark as to what is considered tolerable. I consider a breath of fresh air and unpolluted water basic for a good quality of life. Some can shower in rust-colored water and breathe, most easily, the fumes of the nearby refinery and landfill. Others find this most inconvenient. A fact is a fact. Your take on what is typical is not what is typical for many. I describe what is there, not forwarding my opinion on the subject. That's why this was named Facts about Fujairah. |
