I'm currently in Korea and am thinking about making a switch to Japan/Taiwan (maybe China or Hong Kong from September onwards...The hogwon job I'm at now has too many Kindgarten and young learner classes for my liking...

...On foot how easy would it be to find a job around Tapei would it be better to search on the net? Would a budget of around $2000 enough if i go on foot? Would I be able to find adult classes instead of kids classes in Taiwan?

Thanks in advance...

Here's my two cents

I think a budget of 3-4000 is more safe, as when I first arrived in Taipei I spent way more than expected first month.

And pretty much if you want to teach full-time in Taiwan, unless you get lucky and manage to snatch a good gig, you will be teaching kindergarteners which is also illegal(a law no one really pays much attention to). This is because elementary and HS kids are too busy with their regular school, and adults in TW really lack interest in fully learning English at least in a discplined way due mostly to work. So in the end what you are left with is kindergarteners.

Interestingly, I want to move out of Taiwan and onto Korea pretty much because it seems there are more jobs in Korea not teaching kindergarteners.

Thanks Jamer,

From what i've seen advertised there is... but with the way the visa situation is over here, it makes it really tough to start over if you haven't been here longer then 9 months. I would have to re-apply for a criminal check, get sealed transcripts sent over, apply for a health check and get a letter of release from my employer.... My problem was rushing in and taking the first job on offer.

If you're interested in working for a month; researching other positions while in Taiwan and earning a decent wage as soon as you arrive, take a look at the thread I started and drop me a PM.
