Anyone know how the new TQLS contracts are working out? They contacted me but were only able to offer an 18 week contract. Was wondering how the conditions were there and the possibility of contract extension. |

I saw a job ad on another site and it specified that they were only able to offer short term contacts. |

My advoce to you both is to get on the TES.co.uk site. Don't be limited by your EFL training. If you have a degree + TEFL you may be offered a job in a Private School- salary should be 800+ + rent + flight and you have nearly three months paid leave in the summer. At the minute English School Fahaheel and The English School are recruiting.
Also Box Hill College is looking to 'immediately hire' ESL instructors. ( Ladies College).
Good Luck. |

Thanks for the advice. When you say "if you have TEFL" do you mean a certificate of some kind or just experience in teaching TEFL?
I'm in the UAE right now and I'm pretty happy but just like to keep abreast of things and know whats out there. was more curious what happened to the TQLS program as it was continuously on hold.
thanks again for the info. |

Heyjoe ( Rory Gallagher fan?)-
by TEFL I mean cert or Dip.
You don't want to come here for an 18 week contract. Places like Amideast and British Council I think give year long contracts - so you would have paid holidays + rent and flight etc. Better.
Re Private schools- if you are an experienced teacher ( in any area) with degree ( + TEFL cert or Dip or a PGCE a help ) any of the private schools would employ you. But avoid KNES, Al Shaya and IPE.
Best of luck |

Apparently u dont like to reads all the blogs about TQLS. If you had then u would have not even have considered trying to contact them. Be warned !!! DO NOT go near this company!! They are as crocked and corrupt as u can get. They are in big trouble here in Kuwait. All the labor laws that have been written for the past 100 years do not exist with this company. PLEASE save yourself the agony and embarrassment and do not try to work for TQLS anywhere, anytime, anyplace. |

Um Ayman - both have been reported to the Kuwaiti Ministry of Labour for the Private Sector ( Sho'oon) in the past week for failure to pay complete leaving settlements to departing staff.
Re Al Shaya - 10 members of staff are leaving from one school this year ( including the acting principal and head of secondary), his ESG school has had 5 principals in 6 years and is about to get the 6th. Number 4 left after only 3 months. The secondary dept has only 2 native speakers of English left.
Re IPE the Head ( who has been there working her way up ) for about 12 years left this year and the head of secondary left too. They are advertising for almost all high positions- this is never a good sign in Kuwait.
Don't work for either of these companies unless you have a very low threshold for 'paedagogical morlity'... |

Hi there,
I believe the OP was asking about TQLS which is in no way related to the IPE managment structure of the private schools in Kuwait that miski is talking about. This said, TQLS is not a good gig and should be avoided at all costs.

This isnt very likely in most reputable schools in the English system as opposed to the US. In the English system ALL of the good schools will require class teachers to have a bachelors in education or a PGCE qualification. The American system is much more lax and teachers dont even need a teching qualification- so it depends where you are from. In the English system a TEFL at a private school isnt really worth much and therefore wont get you a job with the benefits that Miski mentions. |

Sorry Middleastman but you are talking out of your arse...........
if you have a degree , ANY degree and perhaps a TEFL cert + experience, you WILL be offered a job at :
KES
NES
GES
ESG
ESF
BSK
and MANY, MANY more.
In my MANY years here , I have met many teachers in private schools with BAs or BScs, a few with MAs and a couple with PhDs....but only ONE with a Bachelor's in Education ! |

Hi all,
Miski thanks for those very eloquent words. I would have expected more but then it seems from your previous posts that youre somewhat limited anyway. I know the principles of most of the schools that you mention and although there are some exceptions to the rules most of the teachers do have formal qualifications in education (not a tefl cert). Oh yes, and by the way, I said decent schools. Obviously you dont have a lot of experience with them. You seem more in your element when boring people about the evils of Al-Shaiya. Now go and do your homework! |

Listen ME man, should I choose to, I could be eloquent with you in 7 languages but I'm neither here to be eloquent nor to impress people, simply to have a bit of fun and for some light entertainment.
Now,I know the principles of most of the schools I mentioned too, and few of them actually have BEds , never mind care about employing people who do. As for decent schools in Kuwait- they are none of them decent- they ALL without exception employ some either
1) unqualified
2) linguistically challenged
3)'illegal' staff
You have no idea where or for whom I have worked ME Man, so let's leave it at that, suffice to say I feel like a good bore about Abdulrahman Al Shaya is better then letting some poor sod get roped into working for him.
Go and have a drink.
Yours, in eloquence,
Miski
