Hi all,
I've been looking into the CfBT package in Brunei, but some things remain unclear. I was hoping someone here may be able to answer them. My questions are as follows;
1. It says housing is heavily subsidised, but just how much are teachers required to pay? Also, do they have a say in the house they live in or are they placed in one immediately upon arrival?
2. What salary could someone with a degree, PGCE and 6 years primary and secondary teaching experience expect to receive?
3. How much do you spend a month on living expenses? Is a budget US$2000/month doable whilst supporting a wife and two young children (aged 2 and 5).
Thanks very much for your help. |

Hi
Housing is not subsidised actually, as everyone has a house within or below their housing allowance. So it is either free, or you can find your own house for less than the allowance and keep the difference.
When a new teacher arrives he/she has 2 options. To go straight into the house provided by CfBT for one year, then either stay on there or find another. Or stay in temporary accomodation for max of 3 months and find your own house during that time.
Regarding living expenses - I have a family and live on about US$2000 a month here. Of course, depends on what kind of lifestyle/holidays etc you wish to have - but 2000 is perfectly doable.
As far as salary scales go, I have no idea there. Depends if you are Primary or secondary - think you need to check that out with CfBT.
Hope that helps.

Thanks for the helpful reply jsteventon.
I was wondering what are the holidays like working for CfBT?
I noticed teachers have a split weekend (Thursday and Saturday off), so the holidays seem to be the only opportunity for some real exploring. Is it much the same as international schools ie. about 12 weeks a year?
Thanks |

Hi
This year the holidays are 10 weeks - the school year ends at end of November, so December is the longest stretch... |
