| I was just wondering if anyone does translating on the side. I was hoping to eventually do some translating on the side. Anyone have any experience or advice? |

Depends where you are. Here in Peru, pay is usually about 5 USd a page when you're starting out. You'll have to becomme known in order to charge mmore.
For me, it's not really worth it. Translation can be hard, because although you jmight speak another lanugage, translating is completely different.
I'll stick to private lessons that pay 20 USD an hour. |

| I don't do it anymore because it's lots of work and little money. Also, the competition is too high. |

| naturegirl321, how about doing translations for some company in the US while living in Peru? They can email you the document and you can email them the translation back. |

I guess I could, but really the competition is pretty high. Places like guru.com are competitve as well. Anyways, I've really got my plate full. School, privates, my company that I started in January and I'll be starting akindergarten in July. |

The trick lies in finding the clients - it's easier said than done. The same goes for editing and copywriting work. But nice work if you can find it - if it pays OK. |

| I love doing translating but have found that doing it as a way to earn a living can be very frustrating. In general, it doesn't pay very well, and the client always seems to want it finished by "yesterday". Unless you're very well established and can work with technical or scientific or legal texts, you'll find it hard to make the time spent on turning out a really excellent translation worth your while financially. |
