I came to Taiwan on July 27th 2007 and I'll be leaving on July 19th 2008. Does anyone know if I can get any tax back or not? My school said I can't but I'm not sure if this is true or not.
Can someone help please. |

get your witholding statement from your school, and go to the tax office. They will get you all sorted out. It's definitely not up to the school to tell you what kind of refund you'll get. If they (your school) don't want to give you a witholding statement they are dicking around on you. |

My school already filed my taxes back in May and said I was not entitled to a refund as I was staying in Taiwan. Now I'm leaving is this likely to change? |

That explains it. Why on earth would you let your school file your taxes for you? Sorry, but you most likely got cheated out of some money. |

Read the thread below about taxes, you can go yourself to the tax office with your tax statement which the school must give you,
Many reputable schools, businesses and institutions pay your tax, BUT it is the responsibility of every individual to fix in the tax form and take it in. You may use a proxy/accounts office to do it for you, but they must give you a statement of withheld tax. |

Go to the tax office and explain the situation to them. Tell them you think the school may have cheated you. File a written complaint so the tax office has to investigate.
Don't listen to your employer's advice. It is likely they have told you enough lies already. |
