There are some real oldtimers around who came here in the 1960's and have worked here since then.

Like them I have to laugh when I hear the new arrivals in KSA complain how tough it is here.

In fact KSA (if you get a good employer) is one of the best-kept secrets of the Middle East. I hope to continue my study and acquisition of the Saudi work ethic for many years, if the LORD chooses to spare me !

What about the "oldtimers" when you started out in the 70s?
Man alive, when did those intrepid souls start? Did they arrive in the 30s or 40s? Shocked

Well, I do not think Uncle Scot is interested in writing a book about the magic kingdom! Uncle Scot is more interested in property market in Bulgaria than writing a book about the magic kingdom.

To answer the question - the secondary school system in KSA started to grow in the mid-1960's and that is when the Cultural Attache in Londostarted to hire British teachers to come to KSA. When I came here in 1970 there were British teachers with experience in Egypt and Palestine (Before the "Nakbah")

At some time in the later 1970's a decison was made that only muslims should be recruited to work in secondary and intermediate schools. That is when the programme of recruitment through the Cultural Attache ended.

As for 007's allegations that I am some sort of property speculator in the Balkans, let me say that I do not get involved in that. Best left to Bulgars and Levantines !
