I've been told that using file sharing programs or torrents is a big no no in Japan? Is it really more strictly enforced there than it is in the states?
Just curious, cause I'm kind of a bittorrent nut... |

News to me. You're not getting confused with China are you?
Guy I work with gets all of his entertainment off downloads. |

It was in the news back in March. The original article I had a link for is busted, but here's a line from the Daily Yomiuri article:
"Japan's four Internet provider organizations have agreed to forcibly cut the Internet connection of users found to repeatedly use Winny and other file-sharing programs to illegally copy gaming software and music."
I believe the article also mentioned torrents as well.
At any rate, it has neither affected me nor any of my friends who are even bigger torrent fiends than I am. So far, so good. *knock on wood* |

When I lived in a LeoPalace apartment my ability to download was severely limited - the admin blocked the maximum number of connections I could have at one time so torrents became useless. Once I switched to Flets ADSL there was no problem - nearly 3 years and I have never had a problem downloading. I do avoid 'hot' stuff though, mainly new movies and software. I just use it (bittorrent) for American TV. |

I use OCN Fiber Optics and have no problems at all. I download movies, tv shows, music, and software everyday, and get about 2MB/s speeds download. I have never been throttled!
I read somewhere that OCN put a cap on how much you upload in a day to 30Gb. Oh no! That is no biggie for me. |
