Any one here living in Hai Phong? I've been in Saigon for over a month, and after spending the last year and a half in Seoul, I would like to try a smaller (more quiet) place.
I'll most likely just pack up and go there when my boyfriend finishes his CELTA class, but if anyone has any experience/advice on living and teaching there, i would appreciate it. I have a BA in English and two years ESL teaching experience in Korea, but no certification (on the teaching end). I'm looking for a quiet-ish place with less traffic and and less street hawking/badgering (on the living send).
Thanks for your help! |

Hai Phong was alright at first cos I also wanted a smaller city to work in. But after some time there I was witnessing alot of social evils (in a smaller city centre). The beach nearby is terrible (for swimming) with more hawkers than other places, similar to the ghosts that walk along Cua Dai Beach. But on the other hand, it has some nice countryside to drive through in freetime. You should be able to find work there. The last I heard there are a few more schools there now than there was???.
Overall, I don't have much advice for you ( it's been a few years since I was there) and I wouldn't ever go back to that city to live....not even for a 5 minute visit -- from my experience. But you may feel different once you're there. Good Luck. |
